Yesterday I looked at the first large batch of new kits across Major League Soccer. And wouldn’t ya know it, more clubs unveiled their new kits Thursday (and more will come out today and tomorrow, too!).
Here are my thoughts on the few that were released on Thursday.
Real Salt Lake
At first glance, I was kind of underwhelmed by this kit. RSL went back to the gold-ish kits for their secondary look and these aren’t bad. I do like the subtle beehive look for the kit as it adds a nice texture to it. Other than that, its kind of ‘meh’ to me.
Overall grade: C
FC Dallas
I gave my early impressions of this kit over at Big D Soccer but I’ll go more into it now that I’ve had a little more time to dwell on the overall look of this kit. Honestly, I wanted more Burn colors to this one, like the old wasabi green, but I do like the overall design of this one. The flames aren’t too overdone and it may be one of the better retro-inspired kits.
Overall grade: B
LAFC
Maybe I expected more out of LAFC, or maybe it doesn’t matter what they do with their secondary kits anymore. This weird green (or yellow…or tan….or whatever the f**k it is) color is just doesn’t do it for me. Maybe I’ll toss it in the pile of “I need to see it in person first”.
Overall grade: D
Sporting Kansas City
Damnit, these are good. Again, I love a standout look and a club that knows how to own it. Ever since FC Dallas dropped the Hoops look, SKC has taken it for their own and really knows how to rock it.
Overall grade: A
Chicago Fire
I really want to like this one, I do. But it feels more like a training top than a secondary kit to me. Maybe it is because deep down I really want the Fire to have a red secondary kit again and not a white one.
Overall grade: C-
D.C. United
The cherry blossoms are finally here. In a way, this feels like the FC Dallas kit but in a pink tone. Maybe I was expecting pinker and less white but it’s just fine. Yeah, just fine.
Overall grade: B-
LA Galaxy
For a primary kit, it needs to stand out and LA managed to do just that. Again, I love a kit that represents the city it is in by doing something with the city’s flag. While it is a bold move to go off script from your primary club colors like this, I am all for it.
Overall grade: B+
